On World Mental Health Day, I Just Needed a Minute

A small reminder for World Mental Health Day and the days after.

It’s strange how we can advocate for mental health so loudly and still forget to check in with ourselves quietly.

I spend so much time reminding people to breathe, to rest, to listen inward and then I’ll look up and realize I haven’t done any of it for myself.

As a Therapist and Wellness Educator, I sometimes confuse awareness with embodiment. I know what I should do. I even teach it. But my knowledge doesn’t always translate into practice.

The older I get, the more I realize mental health has a rhythm. And sometimes, I’m offbeat.

There are weeks when I feel steady. I’m eating well, sleeping enough, journaling before bed, and getting a full eight hours of sleep. These are the kind of weeks where I think, maybe I’ve finally figured it out. And then suddenly, something small knocks me off balance, and I’m right back to relearning how to breathe through the noise.

I used to take those moments as failure.
Now I see them as reminders.
Little invitations to pause, to re-tune.

Maybe mental health isn’t supposed to be perfect harmony all the time. Maybe it’s just about noticing when we’ve drifted from our own tempo and gently finding our way back.

Today, on World Mental Health Day, I’m not making any big declarations. I just wanted to slow down enough to ask myself a few questions:

  • How’s my mind doing, really?

  • What have I been pretending doesn’t bother me?

  • When was the last time I rested without guilt?

  • What small thing could help me feel more like myself again?

  • How’s my body doing today?

  • What’s taking up space in my mind?

  • What feels heavier than usual?

  • What needs to be said out loud, even if it’s just to myself?

No pressure. No productivity. Just presence.

Maybe that’s the real work.

Not trying to control the rhythm, just listening for it.

I hope you get a moment today to check in with yourself too.

Not because it’s on the calendar, but because you deserve your own attention.

Self-Care Office Hours Are Coming Back

I started hosting Self-Care Office Hours back in 2023. It was just an idea at first. A soft space where women could drop in, ask questions, receive prayer, or just breathe together for a bit.

Over time, it became something really special.

We talked about boundaries, burnout, emotional fatigue, and how to practice grace when life gets messy. There was laughter, venting, accountability, love, and so much more. This definitely was a space for the community that feels like an exhale.

I paused them in July 2024, right around the time my schedule got heavy with work, grad school, and therapy hours. I kept meaning to restart, but I was running on fumes.
And honestly, I needed to take my own advice to rest, reset, and not pour from an empty cup.

Now that life feels a little calmer, I’ve been thinking about what I miss most, and this keeps coming up. That hour where we all showed up as we were, no pretending, just presence.

So… I think it’s time to bring them back.
Maybe not every week like before, but bi-weekly feels right. Enough to stay connected, but still gentle for everyone’s schedule (mine included).

I’ll share the first date soon, but if you’ve ever joined before or if you’ve been meaning to, just know the door is opening again.

This isn’t a workshop, it’s not coaching, and it’s not therapy.

It’s an open hour to pause, breathe, and check in with yourself and with others doing the same.

Think of it as collective rest, in real time.

Wellness Check-Ins are Back!

Many of you have been asking when I’d start offering 1:1 support outside of therapy and I’m happy to share that 1:1 Wellness Check-Ins are officially back.

These check-ins are a calm space to slow down, talk things through, and realign with what matters most.

This isn’t a coaching or therapy experience. It’s a moment to pause and hold space for what’s on your mind. It’s a space for you to name what’s going on and figure out how to breathe through it.

If you’ve been needing a reset or just a place to express yourself without judgment, you can schedule your check-in today.

Growing with Grace (for paid subscribers)

This week, I’m sharing a short reflection exercise called “Return to Rhythm” a 5-minute check-in you can do anywhere to reset your mind when things start feeling loud.

It’s not a worksheet or a plan, just a pause. A moment to remember that you’re allowed to come back to yourself, again and again.
